Privacy Policy

Summary

Xarchive is a tool for browsing archived social media snapshots. We aim to collect as little personal data as possible while keeping the service reliable.

Information you provide

When you use the tools, you may submit inputs such as usernames or URLs. We process these inputs to query the Wayback Machine and generate results and exports.

Information we may collect automatically

  • Basic logs: like most websites, our hosting provider may collect standard server logs (e.g., IP address, user agent, timestamps, and request paths) for security and debugging.
  • Analytics: we use Vercel Analytics to understand aggregated usage (e.g., page views and performance) so we can improve the product.
  • Temporary product research: through October 16, 2026 at 00:00 UTC, we record submitted search inputs and parameters, returned archive records and metadata, errors, export actions, and payment status to understand how people use the tools. These records include the IP address, browser details, timestamps, and a temporary first-party browser identifier. Payment identifiers can connect a purchase to activity in that browser. This identifier is not used for advertising. We do not put payment tokens, raw cookie headers, API keys, or card details in these research events.

Third-party services

Xarchive communicates with third-party services to provide functionality:

  • Internet Archive / Wayback Machine: used to retrieve CDX snapshot data and archived URLs.
  • X (Twitter) embed services: if you use tweet previews, your browser may load resources from platform.twitter.com, and our servers may request embed markup from publish.twitter.com.
  • Google AdSense: if ads are enabled, Google and its partners may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, and similar identifiers to serve ads, measure ad performance, limit repeated ads, and help keep advertising relevant.
  • Stripe and Link: Link acts as merchant of record for export-pass purchases. Stripe and Link may collect your email address, billing details, payment method information, IP address, and fraud-prevention signals to process the transaction, calculate tax, provide receipts, and handle transaction support. Xarchive receives payment identifiers and status, but not your complete card number.

These third parties may process data under their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review their terms if you use those features.

Advertising cookies and choices

Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to Xarchive or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this site and other sites on the Internet.

You can learn how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings.

Browser storage for paid exports

Before Stripe Checkout opens, we attempt to store the requested export temporarily in IndexedDB so it can be downloaded after payment. Saved files remain available for retries for up to 24 hours. A signed, HTTP-only cookie records the 24-hour export entitlement; it is not an advertising identifier and cannot be read by page scripts.

PeekVault referrals

When you follow an export offer from PeekVault, we receive campaign tags and random referral, session and search IDs, along with the originating tool, result count, preferred format and acquisition source. A separate public search target lets us continue the requested export. It is processed under the search policy above and is not added to referral metadata. We keep the referral in this tab for up to 24 hours and attach it to usage events and checkout metadata to understand which offers lead to visits and purchases. Expiring the tab record does not delete metadata already attached to a purchase. Referral tags do not grant paid access.

Data retention

Operational logs and analytics are retained for a limited time by our hosting and analytics providers. During the temporary research period, we also back up logs to a private operator device for analysis. The research browser cookie expires when this period ends. Local research backups are not published or included in the application repository. Contact us about access or deletion of information associated with you.
