Acceptable Use

Xarchive is for responsible research with public archive records.

Allowed uses

Xarchive helps visitors search, verify, and export public Wayback Machine records. Appropriate uses include journalism, academic research, public-interest fact checking, historical web research, and internal documentation where the source material was publicly archived.

Not allowed

  • Do not use Xarchive to harass, intimidate, shame, threaten, or target a person or group.
  • Do not use Xarchive to collect private account data, bypass access controls, or access non-public content.
  • Do not use exports to impersonate others, misrepresent evidence, or remove archive context from a claim.
  • Do not use the service for copyright infringement, illegal activity, or violation of third-party rights.

Archive limits

Xarchive does not host social media posts and does not control what the Internet Archive captures, stores, or removes. Results only reflect public archive records that are available at the time of search. Missing results should not be treated as proof that a post or page never existed.

Reporting concerns

If you believe a use of Xarchive violates these rules, or if you have a privacy, safety, or copyright concern, contact us through the Contact page. Copyright-specific requests are described on the DMCA / Copyright page.
